Inspired by memories of walking in the meadow abundant with ox-eye daisies. The light is softening as sundown approaches, on a Midsummer’s evening. In the stillness, there is a feeling of absolute calm – taking a moment to pause and reflect at this uplifting beauty.

Responding to these natural influences, my visual memories and the feeling of the warm summer breeze on my face, I apply layers of paint, scribing through with my palette knife to express movement as I seek to convey the essence of ‘being there’ amongst the tall wild grasses, ox-eye daisies, scabious and other meadow flowers of midsummer, watching the movement of the breeze as it dances through the long grasses.

Creating this painting has been a ‘journey of exploration’ – to bring more freedom of expression, layering colour, mark making, depth and texture into my creative process. There is much of my heart and soul woven into this piece.

This large ‘statement’ artwork takes inspiration from a smaller painting, Summer’s Embrace. Painted in my Cambridge studio using Winsor & Newton professional oil paints on high quality stretched canvas, with softwood stretchers. Canvas size is 100 x 100 cm x 4.5 cm depth. The image is extended on the sides of the canvas creating a 3-D effect. The canvas is signed on both the front and the back, and there are 2 D-rings attached to each side of the softwood stretchers strung with strong cord so that this artwork is READY TO HANG to sit flush against the wall, with no need for further framing, offering a contemporary finish to the piece.
